With a name literally meaning “beautiful-voice” (from kallos, meaning “beauty,” and ops, meaning “voice”), Calliope was the most prominent of the Muses who in Greek mythology presided over poetry, song, and the arts and sciences with integrity and passion. Calliope is also the name given to a type of steam powered musical instrument or an “instrument of delight.”
